It was due at 3am last night, and I finished at 230 (just call me a procrastinator!). While I have always hated anything to do with research papers, I did enjoy this one because it led me to a couple of blogs and stories that I otherwise would not have heard about.

I found a blog entry written by Ed Bruske, the Slow Cook. It was about Mendy Heaps and what she has gone through since challenging the school board in her area on child nutrtion at school. Read about her amazing and courageous journey, A Teacher Crusades for Better School Food and Gets Stomped

It was through this same blog that I found Mrs.Q, a teacher that is "Eating school lunch just like the kids, every day in 2010." I went back to the beginning of the blog and between the pictures, information, and guest bloggers, had some crazy memories of school food when I was younger. You'll have to look for yourself, but the containers they give those students.. wow.

Other websites that I found useful in both my thesis, and my own education:

The LunchBox : newly up and running, the lunchbox is a "toolbox for transforming your school lunchroom"

Jamie Oliver : the man that brought the "Food Revolution" to my eyes for the first time. He is truly working to make changes in this world.

Two Angry Moms : go check out the movie, and see what you can do to help make things better for your own children.

Okay, thats my educational rant for now. I just felt like I put so much effort into that paper, that I should put it out there for anyone else that may stumble upon my blog. I leave you with this..

Nearly 25 million children are overweight or obese.

The US spends more than $260 billion dollars on diabetes and obesity

Over the past four decades, obesity rates have soared among children, increasing nearly five-fold among ages 6-11

(facts from William J. Clinton Foundation)

The Typical First Post

I guess the right thing to do for any first blog post is to informally introduce myself. I am the typical (married) woman in her early-twenties. I have the same topsy turvy struggles as a ton of other people my age. And while my writing will most definately cover some of those struggles, it is what I do and where I live that makes me different. And while Im not going to throw out the actual name of who I work for, I will say that it leaves me with a lot of down time. So, being in central Florida and all, why not waste it away at theme parks(I wont lie, I love Disney! Haha)?

So off we go. Into the world of rides, recipes, restaurants and relationships. And maybe a good story or two along the way. =)
